With zero electricity, first Decentralized Wastewater Treatment Plant in NW Syria

In order to decrease the environmental problems and waterborne disease in northwest Syria as a result of using the polluted water for agriculture purposes, Assistance coordination unit ACU, and Syria relief organization SR has implemented the first decentralized wastewater treatment unit using UASB technology, ACU teams have conducted the need assessment in the targeted areas which demonstrated the most affected locations by the open sewage outlets, an advocacy campaign for the local and international partners has been launched to develop a master plan for responding to the problem, Workshops and technical training have been conducted by ACU team followed by a comprehensive study and the final design, the unit is providing now 1000 m3/day of water for irrigation to benefit 100 farmers with 655 doums of land.
